Two Kalvium documents. Same graduating batch. Two different placement percentages.
The Prospectus says 78.12%. The Student Success Report says 82.40%. Neither is a typo, and neither is the one to be suspicious of. Here’s what each document is actually measuring, and why a family reading both shouldn’t panic at the gap.
What each document says
The Kalvium Prospectus, page 14, states it plainly: 78.12% of the batch placed, with six months to go before graduation.
The Student Success Report, page 12, states a different number: 82.40% placed, as of March 1, 2026, and the batch hadn’t graduated yet.
Read those two sentences again. Both name the same condition. The batch hasn’t graduated. Both are talking about Batch 2026. Neither is describing a finished, closed-out result.
That’s the detail that resolves the apparent conflict. These aren’t two competing claims about the same fixed thing. They’re two readings of a number that was still moving when each document went to print.
The Prospectus adds one more figure worth holding alongside both percentages: 90.4% of the batch had already completed internships at real companies, also from page 14. That’s a separate number from the placement rate, but it says something about the same underlying pattern. Full-time placement isn’t something that gets assembled in the final weeks before graduation. It’s downstream of work that had already been running for years. A placement rate that keeps climbing as convocation approaches is the visible tail end of that longer process, not a last-minute scramble.
Why a placement rate for an ungraduated batch is not one number
Here’s the part that’s easy to forget when you’re comparing brochures. A placement rate only becomes a fixed, final number once a batch has actually graduated and the recruitment window has closed.
Before that point, it’s a running total. Every week a student accepts an offer, gets shortlisted, or clears a final round, the number can shift. A batch at month one of its placement season and the same batch at month five of that season are not the same measurement, even though both are honestly reported.
That’s exactly what these two Kalvium documents show. The 78.12% figure and the 82.40% figure aren’t disagreeing about a settled fact. They’re two data points on a curve that was still rising, recorded at two different points in a placement season that, by both documents’ own account, hadn’t finished running.
A number that never moved across two separate publications would actually be the stranger result. It would suggest the placement process had frozen, which isn’t what a healthy final-year recruitment cycle looks like.
The number to use today
If you need one figure to cite, use the more recent, more complete one. As of March 2026, 82.40% of Batch 2026 had accepted a full-time offer. The median package is ₹16.5 LPA. The highest is ₹36 LPA. The lowest is ₹15 LPA. Source: Student Success Report, page 12.

Even 82.40% isn’t the final word. The batch graduates later in 2026, and the number will move again before that placement season closes for good.
Where I’d push back on my own explanation
Here’s the harder version of this.
“The number was still moving” is a true explanation. It’s also the explanation every college would offer if you asked them about a gap between two of their own documents. That doesn’t make it wrong here, the page-cited figures and the graduation-timing language back it up. But it means the explanation alone isn’t proof. What backs it up is that both documents are specific about the same condition: batch not yet graduated, placement season still running. That specificity is what makes the difference checkable rather than just asserted.
What would actually be a problem is a college that cites a placement number with no page reference and no date. Worse still, no acknowledgment that the batch hadn’t finished college when the number was recorded. That’s a number you can’t check and can’t compare to anything else the college has published. Kalvium’s numbers here are checkable precisely because they come with a source page and an explicit statement of where the batch stood. That’s the standard worth holding every number to, not just the ones that happen to look good.
The three questions that actually matter
Whenever you’re handed a placement number, Kalvium’s or any other engineering programme’s, three questions matter. They turn a marketing figure into something you can actually use.
Which document, and what page. A number floating in a brochure with no citation is not verifiable. A number attached to a named report and a page reference is. If a counsellor can’t tell you where a figure comes from, that’s your answer about how seriously to weigh it.
When was it measured, relative to graduation. A placement rate recorded with six months left before graduation and a placement rate recorded closer to convocation are two different measurements of the same batch. Neither is fake. But comparing one college’s early-season number to another college’s late-season number is comparing two different things while pretending they’re the same thing.
Is there a more recent figure. If a college published a placement number eight months ago and hasn’t updated it since, ask whether a newer figure exists. Placement seasons run for months, not days. A stale number from early in that window will always look lower than reality, even for a strong programme.
None of this is complicated once you know to ask it. Most families never do, because a single percentage on a brochure reads like a finished fact rather than a moving measurement. Treating it as a moving measurement, and asking where it was measured from, is the entire difference between a number you can compare and a number you can only repeat.
What this doesn’t tell you
This piece is about how to read two specific numbers, not a claim that reading them this way settles the whole placements conversation. It doesn’t tell you what happens to students in the remaining percentage who hadn’t accepted an offer by either snapshot date. It doesn’t tell you the sector spread, the recruitment partners, or what the placement process actually looks like month to month. The takeaway

Use 82.40%, median ₹16.5 LPA, as of March 2026, if you need Kalvium’s current figure. A number that survives all three is worth building a decision on. A number that can’t answer any of them isn’t.
